ARTIST PROFILE
- Sandra Tyler
My journey as a fabric
weaver began 18 years ago.
It is now my full time occupation and passion.
I am inspired to create unique wearable artworks.
All the pieces I weave are individually designed and created
by hand.
I love working with colour and natural materials, inspired
by nature and all around me.

I am driven by
the exciting possibilities that are available by combining
colour and pattern. I love creating each piece from scratch
by hand, knowing that it will provide beauty, warmth,
comfort and "funky" elegance.
I
use an interpretation of traditional patterns, inspired by
Maori and Celtic cultures and the universal patterns of the
world.
To create my garments I use pure wool, mohair, and possum
merino wool, all produced in Aotearoa.
The possum merino yarn is unique to New Zealand. Possums are
trapped from specific areas throughout Aotearoa, encouraging
the re-establishment of native forest and birds.
I make wearable garments, and functional pieces.
To wear, there are capes, ponchos and wraps. Also blankets
and throws of varying sizes and materials for beds, couches,
adults and children. |
